Watch video to learnHow to do it (How-to)
In the latest version of QGIS, it is possible to edit the *.DBF file of a shapefile from OpenOffice Calc in such a way that the attributes can be easily filled, as long as the DBF fields are of the correct type and length to accept the values we want to enter.
Here is a video of how to achieve it with free and open source softwareOpenOffice Calc. Which would be similar in MS Excel 2007-2010-2013 with the SaveDBF add-in duly installed since from the Excel version 2003 it is no longer possible to save DBF from MS Excel.
Here the farewell message from the developer of SaveDBF: Gyula Gulyas
Goodbye to the SaveDBF addin (complement). When we write the plugin in 2008, we could not have imagined the success he achieved in recent 6 years. Provided a stable solution for saving and editing DBF files for thousands of users worldwide on all continents (even in Antarctica!). The supported versions of the Excel add-in 2007, 2010 and now 2013. In 2012, we release the version of 64 complement bits, which is one of the first third-party add-ins supported by the Office version of 64 bits. Given Microsoft Office Instructions (Office 365 and beyond and the possible extinction of Visual Basic), we decided to stop further development, as it is taking an enormous amount of time and resources in testing and development. But nevertheless, Current users in Excel systems 2007/2010 and Windows 7 y Excel 2013 and Windows 8/8.1 can use the plugin. From the 1 of January of 2015, development and support of the SaveDBF addin in ALL future versions of Excel will cease. It's been a great trip! Long live DBF!!
